Compliance & Assurance

Limited Assurance Engagement

The progressive increases in the audit threshold have meant that more and more companies can take advantage of the audit exemption provisions in the Companies Act. On first impressions this would appear to be beneficial as this expands the market within which AAT’s Members in Practice (MIPs) can operate and is also beneficial to companies which can dispense with the costs and management time spent on an audit.

Despite the costs of an audit some small companies, that would otherwise be exempt, still choose to have an audit because of the comfort that this provides to the company’s bankers, financiers, creditors, directors and other interested user groups.

The raising of the audit threshold has left a gap between preparing accounts for submission to Companies House and undertaking a statutory audit. This gap could be filled by other forms of assurance.
